dual monitor issues

I run dual monitors and all works great in XP. However, in Vista I've noticed that I"ll leave the computer for awhile and when I come back my secondary monitor is not displaying (flashing orange LED) and my primary monitor again has my taskbar, sidebar and all icons on it. I have to go into display settings each time and re-enable my second monitor (with previous pre-installed video card drivers, as well as newest version) every time I come back to my computer. I've turned off screensavers and set a custom profile stating that monitors, hard drives, etc are to always stay on. I can't figure out why this is still happening. Am I missing somewhere to set these options? Hopefully they're not in multiple places that require multiple setup. . ?

There are a couple of posts in the device / hardware section that run along hte same lines... you may be having the same problem that a few other people (including me) are having...
The primary monitor in a dual monitor system will suddenly begin flashing off and on for a while, then Vista resets the secondary monitor as primary with default settings and disables the primary. Sit and watch and see if thats it.
I have submitted the problem to Microsoft, and posted a couple of replies around here desperately looking for a solution. The only thing that I have discovered is that if you catch the primary monitor while it is flashing off and on, and turn it off for several seconds then back on, it will be back to its origional state.

I'm having this problem too, at least, I think I am, as i'm in & out of my home office all day, when I leave, I turn my monitors off, when I do so, I get the "bing-bong" noise of 'device disconnected' could this be part of the problem:- Vista picking up a plug & play monitor, and when its turned off, its no longer a connected device, and windows acts accordingly and changes the desktop back to one monitor?
My primary monitor, is relatively old TFT, my secondary is a CRT (no swapping them over isn't an option, cables are too tight) it is an annoying problem, as dual monitors are very very useful.

I'm still having this issue, and thus don't use WinV all that much anymore. I'ts too annoying to come back every time I use my computer and re-configure my display settings to 2 monitors, swap them around (right-left, left-right) and moving my taskbar every time. I don't even turn off my monitors. . .and have sleep/power scheme to always on, nothing to turn off ever and no screensaver. I'm running a Winfast A350 (NVidia 5900 ultra card) with an old Dell CRT and an NEC Multisync 97F CRT.
don't know what's going on, but hope that MS is monitoring this thread and has this fixed soon. heh. Not sure of an easy way to directly report this issue to MS as i was able in previous betas that I'd tested for them. Am I missing something simple there too, does anyone know?

There should be a blue, circular icon on the Vista desktop that says "Feedback" for either conveying a sentiment or reporting a bug. Also, Colin has posted the actual websites a few times in this newsgroup. I seriously doubt that without reporting the bug through the proper channels that any one at MSFT will notice it here and take any action.

I was able to fix my 2nd monitor from going out (and never coming back) by turning off power management for my monitor. Essentially: control panel->power->how long until monitor turns off->never.
